Understanding Persons and Users

Overview

SOC Manager® uses two different types of records to represent people: Users and Persons.

Although both represent people, they serve very different purposes.

Important

A User is someone who logs in to SOC Manager.

A Person is someone who can be issued an iLOQ credential, such as a Phone Key or key fob.

What Is a User?

A User is a person who has permission to log in to SOC Manager and perform management functions.

Depending on the User's permissions, these functions may include:

  • Issuing Phone Keys and key fobs
  • Adding and managing Persons
  • Revoking credentials
  • Viewing audit information
  • Performing administrative functions

Users can be assigned to one or more Sites. These Site assignments determine which portions of the locking system the User can manage.

For example, a regional manager may be assigned to several Sites, while a local manager may only be assigned to a single Site.

What Is a Person?

A Person represents an individual who can receive an iLOQ credential.

Examples include:

  • Employees
  • Contractors
  • Vendors
  • Service technicians
  • Other individuals who require access to locks

Important

A Person does not need to be a SOC Manager User and does not need the ability to log in to SOC Manager.

When issuing a Phone Key or key fob, you select the Person who will receive the credential.

The Person list can be filtered by selecting a specific Site.

Can Someone Be Both?

Yes.

The same individual may be both a User and a Person, but these are separate records with separate purposes.

For example, a facility manager might:

  1. Be a User so they can log in to SOC Manager and issue credentials to employees and contractors.
  2. Be a Person so they can also receive their own Phone Key or key fob.

Important

Creating someone as a User does not automatically make that individual a Person.

Likewise, creating a Person does not give that individual permission to log in to SOC Manager.

Users manage access. Persons receive access.

How Sites Affect Users and Persons

Sites are used to organize and control what appears within SOC Manager.

For Users, Site assignments determine which Sites and associated information the User is permitted to manage.

For Persons, Site association determines where the Person appears when performing functions such as issuing a Phone Key.
